Welcome Back!

Welcome back. I hope you all found time to relax over the half-term break. We are excited to have you all back for what, I am sure, will be another busy term in KS2 in the lead up to Christmas.

We are extremely proud of the progress children have made since returning to school and they have produced some brilliant pieces of work in all subjects. Here is a quick breakdown of what the children will be exploring over the next few weeks.

Year 3 and 4 – In history, our topic will be Romans. In addition to exploring how the era began and how Romans changed the world, we will be investigating important parts of Roman culture. In science, children will be investigating sound and understanding how the sound travels. We will be conducting lots of fun experiments, such as measuring the noise in different classes to find out who the loudest class is! In design and technology, we will be learning to prepare and cook hygienically and safely. Children will be building skills such as peeling, mixing and chopping.

Year 5 and 6 – Inhistory, we will be taking a look back at British monarchs from 1215 to present. We will explore the complicated lives of numerous kings and queens from ‘Bad King John’ to Henry V111 and to Queen Victoria. We will also take a look back at some of the most important moments in British history such as: the Magna Carta and the dissolution of monasteries. Our science topic for this term is Animals including Humans. We will be focussing on the human body and understanding the role of the lungs in the circulatory system. We will also be developing our ability to work scientifically by ensuring testing is fair and to question how reliable our results are.

As usual, we ask that children continue to read at home and mark this in their home-school diaries. Hopefully children are all reading at the correct level and we will continue to monitor this. However, if you find that a book is particularly challenging or not challenging enough please let us know. In addition to reading their school books, children should be encouraged to read other books/materials they enjoy at home. Please remember to record any reading experiences in their diaries as they will receive house points.

Children will continue to be given weekly spellings to learn and will be tested on their progress at the end of every week. In addition to this, children will also have a numbered bookmark with a list of spellings. These are normally tested every half term, and when they are secure they will move on to the next bookmark. A big thank you for helping and encouraging the children to practise these at home.

PE will take place every Tuesday afternoon with our JB sports coaches. Please ensure children have suitable kit for indoor and outdoor activities, including trainers and a warm jumper and joggers for the colder weather.

Microsoft Teams

Every child should now have access to Microsoft Teams and homework is uploaded every Friday. We appreciate your patience in using this and understand that some children prefer to complete their homework on paper or in books. We will continue to give the choice of completing it through Teams or on paper.

Working together

Thank you again for your ongoing support this year whilst we work together to secure the best possible outcomes for your child in KS2. If you have any questions or queries, please contact the school office at enquiries@buckcnall.lincs.sch.uk
